Lil Wayne's Lawyer Accuses Police of Illegal Search

During the court hearing which he skipped various VMA after parties for, Lil Wayne's lawyer officially challenged a police search which resulted in a 2007 weapons possession charge. Stacey Richman, who represents Wayne, said arresting officer Diane Hournung "wasn't anywhere near where she said she was" when she claimed to smell marijuana smoke coming from the rapper's tour bus.
According to Richman, who has also defended DMX, Busta Rhymes and Ja Rule, Hornung was several blocks away assisting another officer with an unrelated arrest of Rule on similar charges. The validity of the charge hinges upon Hornung's testimony that smelling marijuana smoke justified her entrance on Wayne's tour bus. Upon entering the bus, Hornung allegedly found a loaded 9-mm. handgun inside a Louis Vuitton handbag.
Earlier this year Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, became the first artist to sell over 1 million copies of an album in a single week since 50 Cent performed a similar feat in 2005 with The Massacre. If the gun possession charge holds up Wayne faces a mandatory minimum jail sentence of three years and six months in jail.
